You can save the client letter as an .RTF (Rich Text Format) file. You can then edit this file with WordPad or your favourite word processor such as MS Word or WordPerfect. This is useful if you wish to make changes to the content or formatting of the letter before you print it and send it to your client.

Remember that once you have saved the letter, the .RTF file will not reflect any subsequent changes made to the client's tax data in DT Max. The letter would have to be saved again to account for further changes.

DT Max will automatically suggest saving the letter in the subfolder called "let" in your client database, and using a file name composed of the client number and name of your client. However you may prefer to choose a location and a file name that better suit your needs.

Note that the exported client letters are NOT backed up as part of the DT Max backup feature. If you require backups of exported client letters, you will have to rely on another program.

If the security of your client data is important, you should be aware that the exported letters are completely unencrypted, and can easily be read by anyone with access to the drive on which they are saved. If this is a concern, you should delete them or move them offline as soon as you have printed them. Most high-end word processors include features to encrypt documents.

Remember that this export feature is only intended to make final adjustments to the client letter. If you wish to change the default DT Max client letter template for all your clients, or change the font, use the features available under Client letter in the Preferences menu.
